Passages and Quotes

Serenity Prayer

God grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change;
courage to change the things I can;
and wisdom to know the difference.

Amen.

I have always been uncomfortable with praying...my inner dialogue often questions if my prayers are balanced (am I asking for too much?  am I grateful enough?)...so the Serenity Prayer has been a way for me to ease into talking with God.  Plus, the words resonate strongly with my life right now.

To think too long about doing a thing often becomes its undoing. - by Young, Eva.

I love this, and I firmly believe it.  While being a thorough thinker is a quality in others that I admire, procrastination can slowly burn out a fire.  Sometimes it's best to just follow your heart, and have a little faith.

"A cheerful heart is good medicine."

A good friend of mine, who I admire for multiple reasons, just posted this quote on her facebook page.  She is a walking definition of the word cheerful.  And although she is being challenged to her core, her positive energy is contagious.

Life is an opportunity, benefit from it.
Life is beauty, admire it.
Life is bliss, taste it.
Life is a dream, realize it.
Life is a challenge, meet it.
Life is a duty, complete it.
Life is a game, play it.
Life is a promise, fulfill it.
Life is sorrow, overcome it.
Life is a song, sing it.
Life is a struggle, accept it.
Life is a tragedy, confront it.
Life is an adventure, dare it.
Life is luck, make it.
Life is too precious, do not destroy it.
Life is life, fight for it.
--Mother Teresa

This speaks for itself.  I hope that everyday I will try and live these principles.

Trust is a great force multiplier." -- Tom Ridge

When I first started my current job (4 years ago), I struggled deeply.  I have learned, through much trial and error, that TRUST is the key to productivity.

Here's to the crazy ones, the misfits, the rebels, the troublemakers, the round pegs in the square holes... the ones who see things differently -- they're not fond of rules... You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them, but the only thing you can't do is ignore them because they change things... they push the human race forward, and while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius, because the ones who are crazy enough to think that they can change the world, are the ones who do.
-STEVE JOBS

I first heard this quote in high school when I was applying to art school.  While I think I have soften quite a bit in 12 years, I still firmly believe in thinking outside-the-box, challenging ideas, and not following the status quo.

Be kind, for everyone you encounter is fighting a hard battle." --Plato

This is a good reminder to slow down and smile.  :)
